Don’t go broke with last minute Christmas gifts.

If you’re anything like me you can hardly believe that Christmas is just over a week away.  Where does that time go…

And if the time has snuck up on you too, then in all likelihood you haven’t exactly been setting money aside to pay for all those Christmas gifts.  While we know that we have to get something for all of those wonderful people on our lists, we have to figure out how to do it in a way that isn’t going to cause us anxiety and even more, isn’t going to break the bank.

Here’s a great article from Credit.com with some tips on how to do just that.  Their top 3 tips are:

  1. Know your spending number. By establishing a budget that you can live with, you’ll be less tempted to go for that shiny new doo-hickey for Uncle Joe that costs more than your whole budget leaving you stressed and broke.
  2. Think in terms of trade-offs. What can you go without for yourself to buy that gift for someone else.
  3. Lower the average amount. It’s not just about getting the hottest, most expensive item that makes the season. During this time of year, it may be best to spend a little time thinking about that special someone and getting a little something that really speaks to the heart.  Lowering the amount you spend per person in dollar terms and increasing how much you spend in terms of thought and love really does go a long way to make the season warm and fuzzy.
